Editor’s note: This is the first in the “Getting To Know Us” series where KPIOnline’s executives introduce themselves to the world.
Hi, I’m Manuel Lopez. In addition to being Chief Operating Officer of KPIOnline and our parent company, Bitam, I am in charge of all consulting and implementation services for the company.
How I Got Into Business Intelligence
In the early 1990s I was a software developer (like everybody else I knew at the time), and creating reports was one of the big challenges for successful projects.
I heard about Data Warehousing, and was interested in learning more about it. I enrolled in a seminar and after 3 days of interesting theory they showed an example of a BI tool to exploit the data in the Data Warehouse (DW).
I was hooked! Since that day I’ve been in Business Intelligence (BI). For more than 15 years now I still find BI, Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) and software technology fascinating!
My Most Challenging BI Moment
When I joined Bitam after working for one of their systems integrators, I took over the services operations for the company. This required me to manage all consulting and training projects in multiple geographies.
This was a big challenge. I needed to know everything that was happening when it was happening, to make sure customer satisfaction remained high as well as profitability.
I decided to create two dedicated BI solutions to monitor training and consulting services. These have helped me have the visibility and control needed to run this part of the business. It’s been very successful so far.
My Most Gratifying Moment(s)
I’m happy to say that at least once a month I have a gratifying moment when a customer expresses his or her satisfcation with our services and solutions. That’s one of the perks of the position.
Vision For The Future
We see the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) delivery model as key to our future, so I’ll continue to help prepare te organization to innovate in this area, as well as to innovate and improve in the BI/EPM services and implementation areas.
