Getting started with KPIOnline: How to connect your ERP system using the free database connector

Tracy Fabian, pre-sales engineer

KPIOnline provides pre-built Business Intelligence (BI) models via a Software as a Service (SaaS) platform.  These models include dashboards and analytics to monitor and analyze Revenue, Expenses, Inventory, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable data.

Also included in the KPIOnline service is a free database connector capable of connecting to the most popular ERP systems such as AccountMate, MS Dynamics NAV, SAP Business One, etc.  This ETL connector engine allows users to schedule automatic data uploads to the KPI Online secure data center.

The SaaS ETL connector is easily installed and configured in just a matter of minutes.  After successfully registering for the KPI Online service, the SaaS ETL engine can be downloaded from the KPI Online website (www.kpionline.com).

After clicking the “Download SaaS ETL Engine” link, the download will begin.  Click “Install” if you receive the Security Warning box asking if you would like to install the software.  Once the installation has completed, you will get a notice saying “You have successfully installed the ETL Engine Software.” You are now ready to begin configuring a data upload job.

Configuring a data upload:

1. Open the SaaS ETL Engine by clicking the SaaS ETL icon.

2. Enter your email address and password for accessing KPI Online.  Set the desired language and click Save.

3. The SaaS – Scheduler window will open.  Click “Add” to add a new job.

4.The SaaS – Task Configuration window will open.  In this window, you will select the appropriate ERP system and KPI Online model and then click Next.

5. The next step is to select the correct ODBC to your ERP system and enter the appropriate id and password for accessing the database.  After entering this information, select “Test Connection” to ensure a successful connection.

6. Next you will define the type of upload.  In the Days back field, enter the # of days back you would like the upload to run.  Select the desired schedule type, i.e. daily, weekly or monthly.  Finally, select the Start Time for the data upload.  Once these parameters have been set, click Finish.

7. After clicking Finish, you will see a summary of the job in the SaaS – Scheduler window.  To execute the data upload immediately, select the job and click Run Now.  To run a full load, select Full Load and to run a Load based on data range, select Load.

That’s it – it is really that simple to set up and configure a scheduled data upload.  Once you have uploaded the data, you can sign on to the KPI Online service to see your data being displayed in the pre-built dashboards.
