Hi Fernando,

You raise some interesting points. How about extending your last sentence to "Not just a report, not just the tools but the insight". While I don't think BI tools are for everybody I do believe that Business Intelligence ought to be pervasive. The difference is how that Intelligence is created and acted upon. In my experience, individuals in highly operational roles don't have the appetite for new/more tools. But could certainly use the insight. Think about a customer service representative in a call center. Probably not the right audience for a BI Tool but if the right Business Intelligence (such as the right message to deliver to the current customer on the phone) is put on her hands then she can act on it and delight the customer in real time. In this case no need for a tool but for the insight. Granted, there needs to be an engine creating and delivering this insight. In this case one could make the argument that the CSR was a user of the BI engine by the fact that she consumed its recommendation. With this in mind then the BI tool would be pervasive.

Best regards,
-M.

Pervasive Business Intelligence: Is It Viable?...

Is pervasive business intelligence an exaggeration? Should it really be for everybody, or just a select few employees? Hint: if everybody gains, and it's cost-effective to do so, why not?...

Very pertinent points of action. I would also recommend the following to retailers -
1) Manage your Supply Chain through analytics. Have an integrated view of demand and supply.
2) Look at your inventory and working capital performance. This is often overlooked.
3) Identify the regions where Stores perform better and plan your store expansions accordingly.
